- Press Release -"Kick Off Meeting"
The European project CONFIDENCE, led by
CEIT-IK4 begins its activity.
On Thursday 7th of February 2008,
the Kick Off Meeting of the European project
CONFIDENCE took place at CEIT Miramon building in San Sebastian (Spain).
More than 20 researchers met in this
Kick off Meeting to draw up the project and to set up the work
plan for the following three years of research.
The main objective of the CONFIDENCE project,
led and coordinated by CEIT, is the development and integration
of innovative technologies to develop a care system for the
detection of abnormal events (such as falls) or unexpected
behaviors that may be related to a health problem in elderly
people.
Nowadays, most of the care systems in the market are limited to
detect falls. The innovation of CONFIDENCE is that it will not
only detect falls, but also identify short and long term
unexpected behaviors that could indicate health problems.
With the proposed approach, the elderly will
gain confidence and independence. CONFIDENCE will be a cost
effective, non-intrusive and reliable system that will increase
the quality of life and security of the elderly and, thus,
prolong their personal autonomy and participation in society.
Not only will the elderly profit from the system, but also their
families and caregivers, since the burden on them will be
substantially reduced. CONFIDENCE aims to decrease the need of
institutionalization of the elderly.
The consortium that will develop the CONFIDENCE project consists of ten partners made up of research
centers, universities and companies of eight European countries.
The project has been financed by the 7th
Framework Programme of the European Commission that granted this
project with the highest mark among 126 projects. CONFIDENCE has
a budget of 4 million Euros for the next 3 years. The partners
of the project are the following ones: CEIT-IK4 and IKERLAN-IK4
from Spain, the Fraunhofer Institute
for Integrated Circuits IIS from
Germany, the Jozef Stefan Institute from Slovenia, Cooss Marche
and Cup 2000 from Italy, the University of Jyvaskyla from
Finland, the Umea Municipality of Sweden, Edevice from France
and Zenon from Greece.
