  • CEIT coordinates the design of a system that prolongs the autonomy of elderly people

ICT in combination with other technologies can play a major role in addressing the associated challenges by improving cost efficiency. The CONFIDENCE system has the potential to enhance the independence and quality of life of elderly people.
Since the CONFIDENCE system will reduce their fear of falling or being left unattended in case of sudden trouble, the elderly people will feel safer and more confident at their own homes. But since the CONFIDENCE system works outdoors as well, the user will also gain confidence when going out.
These benefits will prevent the elderly people from a self-imposed isolation and refusal of mobility. Not only will elderly people take advantage of the CONFIDENCE system, but also their relatives and caregivers will improve their quality of life, since they will bear a smaller burden.
Additionally, in case of an abnormal situation such as a fall or an accident, the CONFIDENCE system will permit a rapid actuation of the health services, which will decrease the negative consequences of the accident (worsening of injuries, psychological impact of being alone and injured, etc.).
