D2.3- Report on outdoor-location techniques
In this deliverable the possible approaches for the CONFIDENCE outdoor localisation system are analysed. Two different outdoor environments have been distinguished: anchor-based environments and anchor-free environments. On the one hand, different localisation systems for the both environments found in the literature have been analysed. On the other hand, the adaptation of the CONFIDENCE indoor localisation system for the outdoor environments has also been studied.
Preliminary measurements done in an outdoor environment have shown that it seems reasonable to reuse the CONFIDENCE indoor localisation system in the anchor-based outdoor area localisation. On the other hand, the anchor-free outdoor area localisation can be tackled using two approaches. The first approach requires the use of a cooperative localisation algorithm and would send the 3D coordinates of each tag to the reconstruction subsystem. A brief description of these algorithms is provided in the document. The second approach would be to send ranging data to the reconstruction subsystem together with some inertial data (if needed). The reconstruction subsystem would use body constrains to determine the positions of the tags.
