The main objective of the CONFIDENCE Project is the development and integration of innovative technologies to develop a care system for the detection of abnormal events (such as falls) or unexpected behaviours that may be related to a health problem in elderly people. The result of this multidisciplinary research will be a working prototype. The end-users, after being involved in the RTD activities by co-defining the specifications, are now called to test and evaluate the prototype. The tests are a key aspect of every research project; CONFIDENCE devotes a specific WP to the validation. Its main objective of this workpackage is the evaluation and validation of the system for indoors.

The system will be tested with real users in indoor environments. As a research project aiming to provide a Prototype system, the first objective is to evaluate if the prototype system works, if it has unexpected technical problems, to solve them and finally reach a new prototype for the end of the project.

The CONFIDENCE project is based on a “user centred approach” followed since the beginning of the project. Consequently, another goal must be achieved by present validation plan: a key aim of the validation will be the collection of the users’ feedback, in the perspective to collect inputs for the technical partners to ameliorate the system, and to demonstrate the system usability, its acceptability and its efficacy.

The trials will take place in residential care structures for older users. The system evaluation will address the reliability of the system, its acceptability, usability and user-friendliness as perceived by the elders taking part to the trials. Data will be gathered through questionnaires. The system evaluation will also address the system functionality and the performance of the single components and interfaces: for each of these technical aspects, measurement criteria will be fixed, and the system evaluated accordingly.
